Iran's view of water is from the perspective of national security

MojNews_ The Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, stated in a public session of the Assembly today, Tuesday, after examining the question of the Mahabad MP from the Foreign Minister about the reason for not announcing his official opinion and not protesting against the Turkish government's improper dams on the Tigris and Aras rivers:

The issue of water is an important priority, especially in our country and in the region, and we have a national security perspective on the issue of water.

The Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly continued:

Not only the parliament, but all the forces and the people are witnessing the environmental conditions and the water shortage, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant organizations must help us to follow up the problem and the discussion of the existing water rights.

Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amir Abdolhian also said this morning in the Islamic Consultative Assembly in response to a question from members of parliament about the water rights of Helmand:

We are not satisfied with the interim governing body of Afghanistan regarding the Helmand River and we believe that they could have done better on the water issue than in previous months.

He added:

In direct talks with the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan and the follow-up of our Special Representative for Afghanistan, we have heard from them for the second time in recent months that they have recognized and emphasized Iran's support for Helmand.
