Iran summons Afghan ambassador to attack diplomatic sites

MojNews_ The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s director general for South Asia called in the Afghan charge d'affaires on Tuesday to strongly protest against the attacks on the embassy of Iran in Kabul and the Iranian consulate general in Herat.

He reminded the Afghan envoy of the responsibility of governments in ensuring the security of diplomatic missions, and called for legal action against those who attacked Iran’s missions, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

The Iranian official also informed the Afghan charge d'affaires that the consular sections of the missions of Iran in Afghanistan have ceased their activities until further notice, saying the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan should provide assurances that the Iranian missions are fully secured.

In recent weeks, unverified videos purporting to show Afghan refugees being mistreated in Iran have been published on social media, angering many Afghans. On Monday, crowds of Afghan people gathered in front of Iran’s embassy in Kabul and its consulate general in Herat, throwing stones at the buildings and damaging the security cameras.

The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry has reminded the Taliban of its responsibility to ensure the security of diplomatic sites in Afghanistan.
