The sharp dichotomy between Western liberal democracies and the rest of the world over attitudes toward Russia was revealed in an annual global poll on attitudes toward democracy.

According to the Guardian, the "Annual Index of Perception of Democracy" conducted after the invasion of Ukraine covered 52 populous countries in Asia, Latin America, the European Union and the United States.

These countries included Greece, Kenya, Turkey, China, Occupied Palestine, Egypt, Nigeria, Indonesia, South Africa, Vietnam, Algeria, the Philippines, Hungary, Mexico, Thailand, Morocco, Malaysia, Peru, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia.

Colombians were equally divided on the issue. In contrast, among the 31 countries seeking to sever ties with Russia, 20 were European governments.

According to the poll, the countries with the most negative views of Russia include Poland (87%), Ukraine (80%), Portugal (79%), Italy (65%), the United Kingdom (65%), and Sweden (77%). , The United States (62%) and Germany (62%).

According to the Guardian, Hungary - which's prime minister is an ally of Russia - has a 32% negative view of Russia. In Venezuela, which is often backed by Russia, 36% of the local population has a negative view of Russia.

Earlier, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov criticized the lack of an objective approach in the Western media to the Ukraine war, saying that there was a Russophobic approach in the media.
