Iranian tar virtuoso Ali Ghamsari has been nominated for the International Professional Music Award “Bravo”.

The 6th ceremony of awarding the Bravo Award will be held on the historical stage of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, Russia, on March 19, celebrating outstanding achievements in the field of classical art.

The gala concert that will follow the presentation of the awards will be attended by well-known artists from the UAE, Serbia, Belarus, Brazil, China, India, and Russia.

At the concert, which will be held concurrent with the last day of the outgoing Iranian year, Ghamsari will also be present and accompany the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, playing the piece “Leaf”.

“May art be the call of world peace, may the Iranian tar become the expressive voice of our Iran, and may I have a gift for you at the moment of the blooming of the new year,” Ghamsari wrote in a note.

A tar, setar, divan player and composer, Ghamsari, 40, began his music education at the Iranian Conservatory of Music and continued his studies in music at the Faculty of Fine Arts, the University of Tehran. He is a Professor of Persian Music Theory at the University of Tehran.

Ghamsari founded the band Sarmad at the age of 18. Afterwards, he established the Hamnavazan-e Hesar Ensemble and the Iranian String Quartet. At the age of 22, he gained fame by composing the album Naghsh-e Khiyal with Homayoun Shajarian. Since then, he has composed over 15 albums, collaborating with several traditional singers such as Alireza Ghorbani, Mohammad Motamedi, and Vahid Taj.

He has performed in many countries, including France, Morocco, Spain, the U.S., the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Russia, and Canada, 

One of the most important and specialized world classical music awards, the Bravo Award recognizes the best of the year in various music categories such as Classical Album of the Year, Concert Hall/Theater of the Year, Best New Artist of the Year, Best Modern Performance of a Classical Work, and Best Classical Vocalist among others.

The non-state-supported Moscow Symphony Orchestra is one of the leading orchestras in Russia. Since its inception in 1989, the orchestra has become an active participant in the musical life of Moscow.

The Bolshoi Theater is as renowned for its performances as it is for its architecture, as it is the home of the Bolshoi Ballet and the Bolshoi Opera. It premiered many world-renowned operas and ballets, such as Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's “The Maid of Pskov” and Tchaikovsky's “Voyevoda”.
