Iran called the American claims about sending drones to Russia unfounded

Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian categorically rejected US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan's allegations about the pending supply of hundreds of weapons-capable Iranian drones to Russia as baseless, and reiterated Tehran's principled position against war.

Iran called the American claims about sending drones to Russia unfounded

MojNews_ In a Friday phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba, Amir Abdolahian said the United States is pursuing “specific political goals” by claiming that Tehran plans to supply hundreds of drones with combat weapon capabilities to Russia.

The Iranian foreign minister dismissed recent accusations leveled by the US national security adviser against Tehran, adding that such claims – coinciding with US President Joe Biden&#۳۹;s visit to the occupied Palestinian territories – are in line with certain specific political objectives the White House is after.

On Monday, Sullivan claimed Washington had received “information” indicating that Iran was preparing to provide Russia with “up to several hundred UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), including weapons-capable UAVs on an expedited timeline” for use in the ongoing war in Ukraine.

A day later, Iran&#۳۹;s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kana&#۳۹;ani rejected the claim, and stated Tehran and Moscow had launched cooperation in area of new technologies before the start of the conflict.

"The history of cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation in the field of some new technologies dates back to before the start of the war in Ukraine," Kana&#۳۹;ani said.

"There has been no special development in this relationship recently," he stressed.

"The position of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the war in Ukraine is quite clear and has been officially announced many times," the spokesman continued.

The Iranian official added that lying and twisting the truth for evil goals are prevalent among US politicians.

Tehran and Moscow have been widening cooperation in economic, military and security fields in pursuit of common policies on regional and international developments. It&#۳۹;s now nearly a decade since Russia, China and some other countries first voiced their interest in supplying Iran&#۳۹;s drone technology after Iran downed a highly advanced RQ-۱۷۰ Sentinel of the US army as it was conducting a spying flight over Iranian skies and started its mass production after reverse engineering the pilotless aircraft.

Elsewhere in the conversation between the Iranian and Ukrainian foreign ministers, Amir Abdollahian told Kuleba that Tehran&#۳۹;s principled stance is based on opposition to war everywhere in the world.

He stressed Iran would continue working to help end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

"As we have announced since the beginning of the crisis [in Ukraine], we are against war in Afghanistan, Yemen, Palestine and Ukraine," Amir Abdollahian continued.

"The principled and explicit stance of the Islamic Republic in opposition to war and support for an end to the war is not similar to the dual approach of certain Western countries, which is based on double standards," the top diplomat noted.

He stated Iran was ready to expand relations with Ukraine in all fields, particularly in the economic and agricultural sectors.

The Ukrainian foreign minister, for his part, hailed Iran&#۳۹;s anti-war position and its efforts to help establish a ceasefire or find a political solution to the ongoing crisis.

Kuleba said Ukraine was willing to open a new chapter in ties with Tehran. He added Iran and Ukraine should not allow others to disrupt their relations through accusations.

The top Ukrainian diplomat invited his Iranian counterpart to travel to Kiev.

In February, President Vladimir Putin stated in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation.

Many Western countries, including the US, are supplying Kiev with heavy weaponry, such as missile launchers, armored vehicles and combat drones. Moscow insists that “flooding” Ukraine with weapons will only exacerbate the conflict.
