MojNews-Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” will be screened in Tehran cultural center.

“Napoleon”, a 2023 epic historical drama film directed and produced by Ridley Scott, will go on screen at the Arasbaran Cultural Center in Tehran on Sunday.

The screening will be followed by a review session by Iranian critics Kurosh Jahed and Amir Qaderi.

The film is set during the French Revolution in 1793, where Napoleon Bonaparte witnesses the execution of Marie Antoinette. He later becomes a key figure in the revolution, successfully leading the Siege of Toulon against the British. After the Reign of Terror, Napoleon helps restore stability and suppresses a royalist rebellion.

Napoleon falls in love and marries Joséphine de Beauharnais, an aristocratic widow. However, they are unable to have children and their relationship becomes strained when Napoleon learns of Joséphine's affair. He returns to France and condemns the ineffective Directory leadership, overthrowing them in a coup and becoming First Consul.

In 1804, Napoleon crowns himself Emperor of the French, angering Austria by his suggestion of an alliance. He defeats the Austrians and Russians in the Battle of Austerlitz and asserts his dominance. Napoleon divorces Joséphine and marries Marie Louise of Austria, with whom he has a son.

In 1812, Napoleon invades Russia after their betrayal of a peace treaty. Despite winning the Battle of Borodino, he faces harsh resistance and retreats with heavy losses. The Coalition forces him to abdicate and exiles him to Elba in 1814.

Napoleon escapes and briefly regains power in France, but discovers that Joséphine has passed away. He faces opposition from King Louis XVIII but gains support from the Fifth Regiment. At the Battle of Waterloo, his troops are defeated by the British and Prussian forces, and he is forced to retreat.

Napoleon is exiled again, this time to the remote island of Saint Helena. He spends his time interacting with children, writing his memoirs, and presenting a version of history that paints him in a favorable light. Napoleon dies in 1821, believing that he will reunite with Joséphine.
