Iran, Azerbaijan to Finalize Gas Deal
The Islamic Republic of Iran tends to import 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan, annually.
Addressing a press conference in Baku, Iranian ambassador Mohammad Bagher Bahrami said that "Iran will buy 5 billion cm gas from Azerbaijan and the two countries have already agreed on the deal."
The deal will be finalized during Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister's visit to Iran this month, he said adding that Iranian gas and oil officials will also visit Azerbaijan for further discuss on the deal.
Referring to the annual trade between Tehran and Baku, Bagheri said that the two sides should try utmost to boost the figure.
Iran-Azerbaijan annual trade reached $670 million in 2008, he said.
According to a report by Azerbaijan Statistics Committee, the bilateral trade between the two countries reached $70.4 million during the first half of 2009.
Asked on Nabucco pipeline, Bagheri said that the project will not be operational without Iran.
